Hi there! I’m Yuqing 👋 A researcher, educator, and lifelong learner whose journey began in Quanjiao, a small county in central China. I spent my early childhood living with my grandparents while my parents worked in big cities like Shanghai. My first classrooms were pretty bare-bones—no computers, no English classes, just wooden desks, a chalkboard, and lots of imagination.
When I was eight, I moved to Shanghai to reunite with my parents. Everything felt new and exciting: bright classrooms, fruit orchards at school, even adjustable desks! That move opened my eyes to how dramatically educational opportunities can differ based on where you're born—and planted the seed for my interest in equity and education.

I didn’t always plan to pursue education as a career (and let’s be honest—teacher salaries in rural China didn’t exactly make it appealing), but experiences teaching in rural schools and volunteering abroad rekindled my commitment to equitable education. Eventually, this path led me to a Ph.D., where I now research how technology, especially AI, can empower students from underrepresented backgrounds, not just by providing access, but by fostering autonomy, self-regulation, and real understanding.
Outside of research, you can probably find me behind a camera 📷, lost in a Japanese mystery novel 🕵️♀️ , or unwinding with a round of League and other video games 🎮. If any of that sounds like your jam, feel free to connect!
